Brief History

The Histology, Cytology and Embryology Department was established in 1920.

In different periods the Department was headed by:

1923, 1925-1926 – Prof. Israel S. PENTMAN
1926-1930 – Prof. Alexey E. EFIMOV

During the WWII, Vladimir G. ELISEEV studied wound processes from the point of view of the inflammatory response. In the postwar period, histophysiology of the cellular elements of connective tissue and blood in experimental disorders of the body was investigated.
1952-1972 – Prof. Alexandra A. NIKIFOROVA. During that period the features of tissue and cellular reactions occurred in the body under the effect of hypoxia, temperature, balneological and chemical factors were studied.
