Brief History

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology was established in 1922 headed by Prof. Alexander A. GRYAZNOV.
 
In 1969 Prof. Boris L. Basin led the Department. Being a talented teacher and a true erudite, Prof. Basin turned the Department into one of the main Obstetric and Gynecological Centers in Siberia.
 
Scientific research has always focused on the current issues of society and obstetrics: postoperative complications, a role of the age factor in generativity in women, course and outcome of pregnancy and labor in multiparas.
 
Since 1978, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology № 2 is located in the Maternity House and the Gynecological Unit of the Omsk Regional Clinical Hospital. The staff of the Department is involved into clinical work, providing the consultations and assistance in severe cases.
 
In 1998, Omsk Regional Clinical Perinatal Center and Center for Reproductive Health and Family Planning were opened. In 2006 Omsk Center for Reproductive Medicine was organized; and the first doctors who started working at the Center were former residents of the Department.
 
Since 2011 Prof. Sergey BARINOV has been a chief of the Department.
 
Currently, a main scientific and clinical interest is female fertility preservation. The clinical guidelines on early diagnosis, prevention and treatment of gynecological and obstetric diseases have been developed by the staff of the Department.
