Brief History

The history of the Department dates back to 1931 when a course of Pediatric Surgery was organized at the Department of General Surgery for the students of the Faculty of Pediatrics.
 
The Department of Pediatric Surgery was established in 1953 headed by Prof. Assoc. Konstantin I. CHULOVSKII, the first pediatric surgeon in the Omsk Region. Under his supervision and management, the Children's TB Sanatorium was set up.
 
In 1974, the Department was led by Prof. Assoc. Ivan T. PLAKSIN, who implemented a lot of modern reconstructive and restorative technologies into pediatric orthopedic practice. He was the first in Omsk to use the Ilizarov method for children with limb deformities.
 
In 1985-2007, the Department was headed by Prof. Leonid A. SITKO, MD, PhD, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation. On his initiative, the City Pediatric Surgery Center was set up.
 
Since 2007 Prof. Andrey V. PISKLAKOV, MD, PhD, has been a chief of the Department, who actively initiated the clinical and scientific activities in the state-of the-art issues on pediatric gynecology, fetus pathology, prenatal diagnostics, and early post-natal correction of congenital malformations, surgical neonatology, pediatric urology and andrology, and proctology. In cooperation with the Department of Pediatric Surgery (Saratov State Medical University), he created a new field of pediatric surgery – antenatal urology.
