Brief History

The Sociology Department was established in 1922. In different periods, it was headed by Prof. Georgy V. KRUSSER, Assoc. Prof. Vladimir E. OPARIN and Assoc. Prof. B. D. GALERKIN.
 
In 1930 the Sociology Department was divided into the Political Economy Department and the Department of Dialectical Materialism, which was reorganized into the Department of Marxism-Leninism in 1938.
 
In 1940-1960s, the Department was headed by Assoc. Prof. M. I. RAKOV, Assoc. Prof. Nasyb B. HAIRULIN, and Assoc. Prof. Gennady L. DUBOVIK.
 
In 1962 the Department was reorganized into two different Departments: History of the CPSU (Communist Party of the Soviet Union) Department, headed by Assoc. Prof. Gennady L. DUBOVIK, and Marxist-Leninist Philosophy Department, headed by Assoc. Prof. Boris F. CHUKHNO in 1962-1969, Assoc. Prof. Alexander E. KATUNSKYI in 1969-1984, and Assoc. Prof. Anatoly L. IVANOV in 1984-1999.
 
In 1970 three independent Social Sciences Departments were established: Philosophy Department (headed by Assoc. Prof. Alexander E. KATUNSKYI, Assoc. Prof. Anatoly L. IVANOV), Scientific Communism Department (headed by Prof. Petr F. YANKEVICH in 1970-1976, Prof. Andrey A. DROBYSHEV in 1976-1990), and History of the CPSU Department (headed by Assoc. Prof. Gennady L. DUBOVIK in 1970-1972, Assoc. Prof. Ivan I. CHEREDOV in 1973-1988, and Assoc. Prof. Nikolay B. VODOLAZSKY in 1989-1991).
 
In 1991 History of the CPSU Department and Scientific Communism Department were merged into one Department, which was renamed to Philosophy, Psychology and Pedagogy Department in 1999.
 
In 2001 all Department of Social Sciences were merged into the Department of Philosophy, Humanities and Social Sciences headed by Assoc. Prof. Lyudmila A. MAKSIMENKO
