Brief History

The Biochemistry Department was established in March 1921 by Prof. Andrey P. Korkhov.
 
From 1930 to 1941, the Department was headed by Prof. E.E. MARTINSON, Prof. A.D. BERNSTEIN, and Prof. D. Ya. KRINITSIN.
 
During WWII (1941-1945) the Second Moscow Medical Institute was evacuated to the Omsk Medical Institute, and the Department was led by Associate Professor A.P. BARKHASH. The areas of scientific work at that time were to study the metabolism in various forms of dystrophy, and the method of ascorbic acid drugs producing and their mass manufacturing.
 
In 1945 - 1964, The Department was headed by Associate Professor A.S. STEPANENKO, who was focusing on the problems of metabolic disorders in intoxication with industrial poisons.
 
Since 1975, the joint experiments in the field of narcology have been carried out together with the Departments of Psychiatry, Forensic Medicine and Biology.
 
1987 - 2012, The Department was led by Prof. V.E. VYSOKOGORSKY, MD, PhD, Honored Worker of Higher Education of the Russian Federation. The scope of scientific interest was the biochemical aspects of alcohol intoxication in combination with various pathological conditions had been conducted.
 
Since 2012, The Department has been headed by Associate Professor Evgeny S. EFREMENKO.
