Department of Hygiene and Nutrition was set up in 1994.
Its ancestor was the Department of Community Hygiene, established in 1942 under the supervision of Prof. Sergei A. PULKIS, MD, PhD, one of the prominent hygienists in Russia. Prof. Sergei A. PULKIS headed the Department until 1972. That period marked by the first steps in studying the environmental impact on public health. Prof. PULKIS was a pioneer in studying community hygiene which was an issue of great concerns in Russia.
From 1982 to 2010, Prof. Igor A. SOKHOSHKO, MD, PhD, the Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation headed the Department. Prof. Igor A. SOKHOSHKO continued scientific research related to the medical and environmental aspects for planning the vast residential and municipal areas.
