Brief History

From 1965 to 1979 oncology has been taught at the Surgery Department (Advanced Course).
 
In 1979 the Course of Oncology was established. Leonid Ya. SHNAIDER, MD, PhD was assigned as a first Head of the Course.
 
In 1982-1997 the Course was led by Vladimir T. BAZARNOV, MD.
 
The Department of Oncology and Radiotherapy (Postgraduate Course) was established in 1997, and until 2003 it was headed by Prof. Dmitry I. DEMIN, MD, PhD. That period was marked by studying the burning issues of urologic and gastrointestinal oncology, and the development of areflux compression anastomosis.
 
In 2003, Prof. Viktor K. KOSENOK, MD, PhD, a full member of European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, Principal External Expert in Oncology in Omsk Region, Academician of the Russian Academy of Medical and Technical Sciences, became the Head of the Department.
 
Since 2022, the Department has been led by Dmitry M. VYUSHKOV, MD, PhD.
