Brief History

The Department was established in 1952 headed by Prof. Antonina N. OKULOVA, MD, Dr Sci (in Medicine).
 
In 1970-1973, the Department was led by Prof. Yu. I. MALYSHEV MD, Dr Sci (in Medicine), who was an organizer and a pioneer in the establishment of Toxicological Center of Acute Poisoning.
 
In 1963-1970 Prof. Vladimir I. LARIN, MD, Dr Sci (in Medicine), became the Head of the Department. At that time most of the studies were devoted to the preservation of human fetuses and their use as a plastic material to replace defects in the corresponding tissues, as well as as a stimulator of regenerative processes – a topic far ahead of its time.
 
In 1970-1973 - Prof. Yuri I. MALYSHEV, MD, Dr Sci (in Medicine) was responsible for the Department. In those years, the Course of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care was established in the Department headed by Assoc. Prof. M.P. GORBACHEVA, MD, PhD.
 
In 1973 – 1975 – Assoc. Prof., Petr V. IVCHENKO, MD, PhD (in Medicine). The scientific topic of that period was issues of phlebology.
 
In 1975, the Department was led by Prof. I.P. KROLEVETS, MD, Dr Sci (in Medicine). That period was marked by studying esophageal pathology, including post-burn strictures, cancer, diverticulitis, and achalasia.
 
In 1993–1995 Departmnt was led by Assoc. Prof. Ivan F. KORIENKO, MD, PhD (in Medicine). 
 
In 1997, the staff of the Department started to develop and introduce into practice the techniques of minimally invasive surgery through an open mini-incision, which has later become a hallmark of Omsk surgeons. Prof. Yu. T. TSUKANOVMD, MD, Dr Sci (in Medicine) was the first in Russia to perform an endoscopic surgery through an open mini-incision on the thyroid gland.
 
In 2007, the first Course for Advanced Professional Training and Retraining for Practicing Doctors "Modern Surgical Technologies" was held, where the workshops from famous Russian professors were organized.
